4/10/2019 · Whenever a RHEL/CentOS VM is booted up, syslog-ng daemon fails to start. This can be fixed by configuring syslog-ng.service to start after network daemon. syslog-ng.service – System Logger Daemon Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled), Aug 19 16:44:49 localhost.localdomain systemd[1]: syslog-ng.service holdoff time over, scheduling restart. 7/2/2019 · syslog-ng fails to start at boot if you use the IP address of the ethernet interface (static IP address): source s_udp { udp(ip(10.1.1.1) port(514)); }; After boot, if you manually start syslog-ng service, it starts with no problems: service syslog-ng start . If you change the IP address to 0.0.0.0, the service starts at boot with no problems.

2/24/2017 · my syslog-ng failed on startup because it doesnt play nice with rsyslog (im thinking they both use port 514) systemctl disable rsyslog allowed me to systemctl start syslog-ng syslog-ng .
